Most of my work over the last 25 years has involved designing individual gardens for private clients and for architectural projects, working with existing architecture and environments. However I also enjoy the challenge of re-creating historical gardens or themed gardens for exhibitions and garden shows.
Show gardens
Designed Gold Medal winning gardens for
Designed a Silver Gilt award winning show garden at Chelsea 2008 'From Life to Life - a garden for George'
The work involved the design, organisation and implimentation of the gardens and the specification and supervision of the planting.
Private gardens
Redeveloped and redesigned a walled garden including a flower garden and potager in the grounds of Friar Park, Henley-on-Thames for George and Olivia Harrison.
Restored Henry Moore’s wife Irina’s garden at Much Hadham in Hertfordshire.
Design and planting of many private gardens in London and East Anglia including:
An ‘Eastern’ courtyard garden in Thurloe Square.
A ‘plantsmans’ garden in Surrey.
A 22 acre estate in Norfolk involving the specification of 6000 trees as well as detailed layout and planting schemes for all the areas around the house including tennis court and swimming pool complex.
Public gardens
Worked with Chassay and Last Architects, preparing landscaping plans for London projects including:
Stanhope Gardens - A West London square
Warrington Gardens - A new development in Maida Vale
The Korean Embassy in Palace Gate - exterior and conservatory design and planting
A new housing development in Finchley – designing an area to be used by both residents and children
European projects
Received Gold Medal for design and implementation of a French Garden for the French Tourist Board at the Spring Gardening Show at Olympia.
Redesigned part of the Jardin de Valloires near Amiens. Also involved in detailed design work for planning consent for private clients and architects.
Designed two large gardens in southern Spain for relocating clients.
Associated work and commissions
Articles on planting and design for gardening journals such as Gardening Which and Gardener’s World.
Worked on designs and planting schemes for gardening books by publishers Collins & Brown and Harper Collins
Established a Foundation Degree in Landscape and Garden Design with Otley College in Suffolk, also running workshops on design layout and planting design.
